Eilidh Ross

crofting law specialist

Experienced advice and assistance on all matters of crofting law.

Before entering the field of crofting law I studied Politics and International Relations at the University of Aberdeen, graduating in 1999. I then lived in the USA and spent time travelling before returning to Scotland in 2002 to study for my law degree at the University of Strathclyde. I graduated in 2005 and obtained my Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Edinburgh in 2006.

My professional career began in 2006 with a traineeship at Macleod & MacCallum.  After qualifying in 2008, I stayed with that firm until joining Inksters in 2011. I practiced in both Inverness and Skye with Inksters, with an 18 month spell seconded to the Crofting Commission as Commission Solicitor, before leaving in 2016 to work with Anderson Shaw & Gilbert back in Inverness.

During my time in practice, I often felt as though I was doing two jobs at the same time; both a practising solicitor dealing with conveyancing and registration of title AND also a crofting law specialist. I decided to try to structure things differently, so I renounced my practising certificate to enable me to focus on the crofting law element, launching Camus Consulting on 1 July 2017.

I remain on the Roll of Solicitors as a non-practising solicitor and as such, I am a member of the Law Society of Scotland (and served on the Society’s Rural Affairs Committee between 2008-2017).

I am also a Committee member of the Crofting Law Group, a member of the Scottish Crofting Federation, and a member of the Scottish Land Commission’s Land and Human Rights Advisory Forum.

In 2023 I took up a position as a Board Member / Trustee of Inverness Womens Aid (IWA), an organisation devoted to supporting women, children and young people who are experiencing domestic abuse. The work IWA does is incredibly important and I am grateful for the opportunity to play even a small part in that.
